Lil Wayne’s “On Fire”: A Video About Occult Initiation

The video however clearly indicates to the viewers that this girl is “On Fire” for a reason: she comes from Hell. We will look at the symbolism used in Lil Wayne’s “On Fire” and we’ll see how this infatuation is in fact with the devil himself.
Lil Wayne’s newest album will be called Rebirth. This term has, more often than not, a spiritual connotation. Since one cannot physically be “reborn” during a lifetime, the term Rebirth almost always indicates a spiritual metamorphosis. Countless religious and spiritual groups in history describe the initiate’s awakening as a Rebirth, where the old self dies and the new, improved self is born. Whether we look at Born-Again Christians, Buddhists, Freemasons or even members of the Church of Satan, the symbolic rebirth is commemorated by some sort of ritual. Didn’t Jesus himself say: “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again“?
Director Chris Robinson has fully embraced this concept by inserting religious imagery throughout the video to “On Fire”. The symbolism of the video couldn’t however be clearer and I won’t play with words: Lil Wayne’s Rebirth is a Satanic one. As simple as that. The “hot girl” Lil Wayne is describing is, in fact, the Devil himself. The juxtaposition of religious symbols with Lil Wayne’s encounter with this sexy temptress gives to the video a second layer of meaning: a spiritual one.
The video is based on the reversal of the classical paradigm of good vs. evil, making evil seem sexy, desirable and cool. This theme has been used before, as in Rihanna’s Umbrella and Disturbia (articles here and here) where the artist is seduced into the “dark side”. Lil Wayne’s Rebirth seems to confirm Lil Wayne’s initiation into the industry’s dark side and “On Fire”is the initiation ritual. Here’s the video.
Analysis of Video
Right from the start of the video, the reversal of the good and evil paradigm is symbolically represented.
The white rabbit in the hands of the Temptress becomes black. In other words, the white rabbit, the symbolic color of purity and innocence becomes black, the color traditionally associated with death and evil.
Lil Wayne, his new rock star persona, gets up from a couch and starts singing the praises of the Devil and describes its irresistible sexiness in his digitally auto-tuned voice (can’t get enough of that effect … cough …). Here are some highlights of this poetic masterpiece:

She got the Devil in her,
I do whatever with her,
Hells angel, I pluck her feathers n-gga
So I am not talking about “the devil”, “Satan” and “evil” because I am a religious fanatic of some sort, this is truly the theme of the song. Lil Wayne compares this girl to the Devil and explains that she is “On Fire” because she is straight from Hell. I don’t think it can be any clearer. Well actually, the video makes it extremely clear.
- Another opposition of good versus evil is shown by opposing angelic cherubins with the black-winged Temptress.
The use of religious and biblical imagery throughout the video clearly conveys that this song is not about a woman, but a spiritual entity.
The Communion
In the most symbolic scene of the video, Lil Wayne is approached by a Temptress, a sexy representation of the Devil, who offers him what looks like a glass of wine. The ritual is inspired by the Christian ritual of the Eucharist, where bread and wine (representing the Christ’s body and blood) are shared by Church members. Lil Wayne is however drinking the blood of the Devil in his initiatic rite.
- Lil Wayne’s “wine” is glowing, representing the supernatural nature of this symbolic communion. This is not just a drink, it is his Satanic initiation.
The Temptress who gave Lil Wayne his wine glass is then shown with a skeleton face overlapping her own, further reinforcing this notion of “sexy but deadly evil”.
- Right when this scene is displayed, Lil Wayne says “She’s got the Devil in her”
Lil Wayne then “consummates” his relationship with the Devil. Submission to evil is depicted as something hot, sexy and desirable. This scene is intertwined with scenes of a snake, which, once again, hint to the real nature of the communion going on.
Snakes are considered by most to be sneaky, venomous creatures. In the biblical context of this video, one can associate the snake to the serpent of the Book of Genesis.

The snake is considered by most Christians to be Satan in disguise who tricked Adam and Eve into disobeying God. The same way the Serpent of the Genesis convinced Eve to bite the apple, the Temptress convinced Lil Wayne to unite with her.
Winged Lion
Among other religious-related shots, a stained-glass depicting a winged lion quickly appears.
The winged lion is an ancient symbol representing St. Mark the Evangelist, further reinforcing the biblical, “spiritual struggle” aspect of the video.

Birdman’s Tattoo
Birdman, Lil Wayne’s mentor, makes a quick appearance in the video and shows off his new tattoo.
It is an inverted pentagram, an important symbol in the occult realm.
“The pentagram with one point upwards repels evil, but a reversed pentagram, with two points upwards, is a symbol of the Devil and attracts sinister forces because it is upside down and because it stands for the number 2. It represents the great Goat of the witches’ sabbath and the two upward points are the Goat’s horn.”

Interesting sidenote: Some readers have a hard time believing that video directors and artists deliberately use these types of symbols in the videos and claim that my observations are merely the result of coincidences. A friendly reader of this site has sent me a Behind the Scenes video of Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi video (you can view it here) which gives a slight idea of the mindstate of the people in the industry. Check out the shirt video director Jonas Akerlund (who also directed Jay-Z’s On to the Next One) was wearing during the shooting of Paparazzi:
There are no “conspiracy theories” or wild allegations here. People in the business know exactly what they are doing. The darker aspects of Western Occultism are heavily studied and exploited in the music business. I mean, the director is walking around with a Baphomet head on his shirt while directing the video to Paparazzi! Can Satanic messages be a result of coincidences?
The Distorted Sign of the Cross
For the second time in a recent video (the first time being Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance) the star of a video performs a distorted Sign of the Cross, which describes a triangle instead of a cross.
If you’ve read my article on Bad Romance (available here), you’re aware of the many occult themes exploited throughout the video. “On Fire” describes a similar story of initiation and, at critical point of the performance, this distorted ritual is performed. Does this altered religious sign hide an occult meaning?
In Conclusion
Lil Wayne’s “On Fire”is yet another tale of occult initiation, complete with a communion ritual. Although Lil Wayne has appeared in some occult-themed videos, “On Fire” is an “initiatic” video describing the true nature of his Rebirth. The video uses the same basic template found in other “Illuminati” videos analyzed on this site, where the artist is approached, tempted and initiated by an evil entity. Director Chris Robinson used a very biblical approach, using symbols known by the masses and making it easily decipherable by the common man. In other words, the real meaning of the song is meant to be understood.
From what I’ve heard, this single may or may not appear on the final version of the album and the video has been taken off YouTube. Is it because it got such bad reviews? Whatever the reason, the video still describes in a blatant manner the true nature of the force guiding Lil Wayne’s career.

I watched Sade´s new release vid “soldier of love” last night and it seems to have quite a lot of symbolism in it, to start with it begins with apocalyptic images and the four dancers reminded me of the 4 horsemen of the apocalyps, and then the white horse appears too! I have been reading your articles for a few weeks now and I have to give my due praise. Good work Vigilant Citizen.
I agree with a lot of what you say, and I don’t believe in a personal God, heaven and hell. I do see the evidence in that the elite are trying to push a “dumbed” down version of their religion. The use of subliminal messages is definitely a powerful tool in achieving this goal. This article has shown this to me because, sometimes, these people, these followers, they really don’t know that they are doing it. I will admit, that maybe, in a way, I can see certain benefits in the way of thinking, “Do as thou wilt”, and how a personal god represses knowledge. I do incorporate elements of those ideals into my life but, I am not out to commit genocide. Respect is important because when you understand this, you learn to respect nature, humanity, and yourself. A balance needs to be achieved because not always can you “Do as thou wilt”, but you can not also live a life with complete outside control from a God.
The picture with the guy wearing the inverted pentagram shirt, probably doesn’t really know the history or the significance of the symbols he is displaying. That shirt is of a black heavy metal rock band called Venom. I listen to a lot of this kind of music, as I am sure this guy probably does as well. These bands do not hide that Lucifer, Satan, and these demonic spirits are incorporated into their lyrics. I do not worship Lucifer, Baphomet, or Satan, but I am not afraid of these figures, or care for these figures. Within this genre and atmosphere of Heavy Metal, there is people from both extremes of characters, and everything in between. I could see these figures for the sense that maybe they do represent light and the sense that they gave man knowledge, and others will see them for what they may also represent, maybe even evil. To me, really, they are just stories, they could even be aliens that came to Earth at some point for all I care.
Like I said, I don’t much care for these figures, but I do not deny that they are part of some of the music I like to enjoy. I do not let this music control me, but I have to watch out that I do not set myself up to a trap. I believe that it is the same way with these artists. The only thing about their actions is that they place these elements subliminally. This is what shows an intent to control minds.
Get educated, stay sharp, question everything, and think for yourself.

I’m a bit confused. I’m from a small European country and one of our singers has made it pretty far in the US. She has an album out and everything. She is signed to Island Def Jam (isn’t Jay-Z in charge of it?). In one of her videos you can see a huge eye staring at her from the TV. There are black and white patterns. She is transformed into a puppet at one point. On her Myspace there are photos of her looking like a mannequin. Her name is Kerli and I’m a bit scared for her now :/

if you read VC’s about me section. you’ll notice he says something about liking hip hop… goth and punk and rock music has always been associated with the occult for “shock value” for lack of a better phrase. i think what VC is exploring is the hip hop industry following suit. the different genres have always had separate followings. and a rock star was a rocker! hardcore to the bone biting heads off bats and that kind of thing. it was just expected. in recent years the iconography commonly associated with rock was crossing over to hip hop and r&b and pop and tweeny pop and fashion!
where i live violence is a part of life. hijackings, rape and murder happen on a daily basis. when this culture started we were all shocked and horrified at it we couldn’t breathe for a few seconds. after living with it for so many years when you hear a story of a child of 3 that went missing and was found naked, raped and sodomised and then crushed by a rock by a family member or family friend, you blink twice, voice your distaste at how someone could do something like that to such a tiny innocent person and then you go on eating supper.
what i’m trying to illustrate with this is the desensitised mentality we have after being exposed to this kind of violence on a regular basis.
by spreading all of these ideals and imagery across the genres the target audience is ultimately a whole lot bigger than just the rock and metal culture. slowly desensitising the masses but constantly exposing them. we’re being prepared for whatever it is they have planned. we stopped thinking for ourselves and how better to mold the masses when they have no thoughts of their own.

This was a very good article. Thank you for not having sound on the video, just looking at it made me uneasy. All I can say is that they are giving their lives to an entity that only cares about himself. However, friend I would have to correct you and say that there is no ritual to commemorated the rebirth of a born again Christian. The bible says in Romans 10:9-13

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”
Also, the scripture that you referred to can be found in John 3:3 where Jesus was speaking with Nicodemus about the new birth. If you read on to John 3:14-17 Jesus says, “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
As you can see there is no ritual for one to be born again. All one has to do is believe and confess.

I’m well aware that some black metal bands are real satanists and some others are only using it as a gimmick because it is expected in the genre while still others are just plain mental cases. @Passion #52 This is something I had to explain to my mother. For the longest she was bugging me about getting baptized. She was under the impression that if one was not baptized they would automatically go to hell. I had to explain to her as well, that the ritual is only a representation of the actual spiritual baptism, which is internal. Many people go to the altar at church to be saved, as a public confession of their being born again and accepting Christ into their lives. However, just like baptism, this is another act that is not necessary for one’s salvation. I do plan to get baptized just to put a smile on my mother’s face, and relieve some of her worry. However, I have no doubt in my heart that it either makes our breaks me spiritually.

I don’t know why the Illuminati or satanists or whatever, are being so bold right now but I think they believe that the Anti-Christ is drawing near. To them, the Anti-Christ is simply the new messiah. They want their reward. They want a place in his kingdom. When Jesus came, people were expecting him. His coming was prophetically written about in various books that were joined together to form a Bible. There were even some wise men who seemed to be “astrologers” since they found him by his star. So even scientifically, Jesus’ coming was predicted. Then he showed up and some didn’t believe but he made a believer out of others.
Well the devil is a copycat. The Anti-Christ’s coming is written about in the Bible but that’s not the image that he wants. He has other books that talk about the Age of Aquarius and he has “unwise men” who study the stars and the times. Then you have the satanists and Illuminati who believe that they are “illuminated” like the “light bearer” Lucifer but he ain’t Lucifer no more. He’s a dragon now. The Bible says that with his tail, he pulled down 1/3 of the stars when he fell (the stars were the angels). That 1/3 is what we’re dealing with down here but they don’t break ranks with Lucifer.
When Jesus was here, the Bible teachers accused him of working with Satan and said that was how he was working miracles. Because he was full of demons. Jesus told them that Satan’s kingdom is not divided against itself because if it was it wouldn’t stand. So any demon is 100% Satan (same mind, same goal). The Bible says that the Anti-Christ will also work miracles and many people will believe. And that his charisma would be so intoxicating that even believers would be fooled if God allowed that to be.

I became interested in this and looked into it because lina morgana apparantly died on 4th october 2008 and people are intrested in her because of the lady gaga connection and there are no articles specifically referring to lina mirgana as dieing and as to what the cause of death may have been, all any of the sites say is that lina died ‘tragically’. There is only one article about an unnamed woman jumping off the roof of a building in the right location for it to have been lina, i might add. It seems from what information i have found on line that lina morgana wanted to be a singer and posted videos of her singing other peoples songs on youtube. We are in the world of satan. These things are inevitable, so if we stop watching T.V. and listening to some music, we are just limiting ourselves. Because where ever you go, you will always bump into something that has to do with these stuffs, like it or not. I have another interpretation of the “Mind Control” stuff, I really don’t believe that a chip can be implanted in my head and then control me via whatever it has inside. The mind control stuff for me is more of a process, a process that starts from childhood. These guys behind these things are setting the situation, enveloping their messages through music and videos, and mailing it via worldwide medias with the help of worldwide famous artist, artist’s that don’t care about these stuffs as long as they have money and fame.
The target are the kids, the innocent ones, the open and empty canister of the seed that they are planting through internet and global medias and artists.
For example, a video that contains someone smoking and having some sex, what would be the subconscious effect of these visual content on an innocent kid who longs to be cool and recognized by his cool friends? The tendency is, the kid will imitate this “cool” persona and do what it does, smoke and drink, take drugs, have sex and stuffs. And we all know that smoking, drinking and drugs are deadly, sex without marriage is life ruining both for the parents and the kid.
The SYSTEM is our sinful nature, our very own system, that is inside us. These dudes are just feeding it ’til it grow to the point we can’t handle it anymore and be enslaved by that system.
It is given, we humans are sinners, satanist’s are just tapping that sinful nature inside us through these things and if it wakes up it will be a terrible and rough road ahead. But we can’t isolate ourselves or our kids from the outside world to avoid them from being exposed to these things, they will not grow and learn.
What we can do is, if we care for our kids, let’s take a close look on them, let them explore but don’t forget to advise. Love them so they won’t look for it from the wrong hands. And we for ourselves, let’s prepare, arm ourselves with knowledge from the true God of gods, King of kings, and the Lord of lords.

I am not a Christian, though I think true Christians are going to be our best defense in the great spiritual battle unfolding before us. People who want to kill, subvert, dumb down, poison, and limit others are EVIL. I don’t care what their moral/spiritual justification is. The means must be consistent with the ends. Look at Lil Wayne’s eyes at the top. The force has been sucked out of them. He’s living a life out of step with nature or God. That is clear. Many people worship evil because deep down they fear it. That’s Lil Wayne and his followers.
I am less concerned that such videos are “ushering Satan into the world,” than that they are modeling an inversion of what human love and sexual union is all about. I’ve known two people in my life (I am 44) who used sex as a means to control on the deepest level possible. They actually, in some fashion I don’t understand, owned the souls of their partners. Their minds were closed and dishonest, while their “lower” faculties of desire and sexual union were completely dedicated to bringing their partners under their spell. Ultimately, religious experience is about faith, divine intervention (Grace), and heartfelt communion, irrespective of the religious symbols that exist in your environment.
If these Illuminus messages are trying to place a spell on us through their witchdoctor-like use of religious icons, is it not also possible to foster a high vibrational spiritual state where their influence — and the intentions of the video directors — do not harm you?
Ultimately I think one’s only defense is to unplug the tv. Moving images have an inherently propagandistic quality that subverts discrimination. Images and messages come at you so fast that you cannot process them (nor defend against them) quickly enough.

@ alice- yes have noticed with a lot of rappers they are more rock, apparently this has been the case from back in the day ex. beastie boys, linkin park, run dmc had even done something with aerosmith back then, p diddy had some guitar breaking at his concerts.. there were always cross-overs because its same people behind them in the industry- the more interesting thing that i am seeing is the large rise in the dance/club music scene- this has been insane, with dance/house/trance- you dance and love how it sounds but have no idea of the hidden stuff they are saying in lyrics .. now you see the rappers and rock people doing a dance hit so they can get up in the clubs – all this freakin time i loved the song “i gotta feeling- tonights gonna be a good night” thought it was just the black eyed peas- and guess what lil’wayne has is own version- i got so grossed out when i heard what he was saying behind the cool sounding loud music — rihanna songs are all up in the dance club music scene too etc list goes on
I forgot to add that Lil Wayne’s song sucks. For someone with such a rebel, hard-edged look, his music might have been sung by Boyz 2 Men or Britney Spears. There is no juice, no newness, no passion in the song. It’s heavy on image, totally light on substance. From that lackluster synthesized pop riff at the beginning until the song’s end, apathy rules. Heck, at least with Led Zeppelin you had some extraordinary musical and lyrical insights.
Unfortunately, Lil Wayne is having an effect on our youth. I work with kids, among whom is a 13 year old Latino who talks about the devil a lot, and how he wants “666″ tattooed over his heart. His favorite artist is Lil Wayne. This boy lies a lot, has poor peer relations, and takes no pride in doing the right thing. Just a microcosmic look at the fruits of using Lil Wayne as a role model.

@kim 4- good points and the school systems are chanigng, i know here in nyc what is going on is teachers are working hard and kids are sitting on the floor doing group work – just sitting not even allowed to take notes, the teacher has to write everything out for them and give hand-outs- there is no more high/medum/ low level because they dont want them to feel seperated, so the sharper and the slower are all in the same group while the teacher is doing all the work and they just have to listen, if they even do that..and this is from kindergarten jr high way, they have no foundation whatsoever and most kids can’t write a sentence much less a paragraph by the 3rd and 4rth grade, from what i hear from friends and fam in teaching.. this is a whole other ball game but the nwo is going to include people who are good- for- nothing floor moppers and the really really smart- there will be no more in-between, hence the elimination of the middle class- this is a whole other ball game but ties into the music industry’s effect on kids as well , its all part of how they are being sculpted today.. side note one of my marketing clients, a big marketing corp. i had a meeting with the other day and what do i find when i enter the office- a large screen where they used to show commercials, promotions etc of their clients that they market for- well low and behold there is a huge human eyeball on the screen- and its not moving just a big eye from 9-5 showing on a huge tv screen up high on the wall that greets you when u walk in- and what else do i find – they re-painted the entire floor may i add in black and white- they used to have crazy colors like orange, green etc on every wall different color- now its black and white- i mean marketing industry has to follow the lead so they can keep with the times and be trendy and all- but it amazes me how no one has a clue– also was in one of our offices the other day and there is a painting in everyone’s office – i forgot the artists name but e does mostly images of flowers- well in the background when you look close, he has hidden upside down starts and those swigglies that look like hypnosis symbol.. i dont want to start thinking everything and everyone is related but its like everywhere!

I love Lil Wayne’s songs, people told me he’s a decent guy in real life or in interviews, but my friend watched a documentary about him, which I was not interested it, and Wayne has a very immoral sense of life. He bases it on drinking, drugs, smoking, finding women, leaving women, money, and wants to legalize marijuana and prostitution and it seems like he thinks marriage is stupid because he stated “why should a woman share my hard work”… He’s not working that hard anyway.. he’s pretty rich with four kids or so.

I agree with most of what you have said however I think you’re missing some background on Lil Wayne and Baby. The tattoo of the five pointed star is not religious at all but is actually gang related. The red five pointed star is a sign of the “bloods” a gang which both Lil Wayne and Bay claim to be a part of. The fact that there is a black outline also makes that even more clear because red and black are the gang’s primary colors. The tatt on Baby’s head is the second tatt of a star on his body. Both Lil Wayne and Baby have the same red star tattooed on their neck under their chins. The star on Lil waynes neck in the past was just an outline but in recent videos has been colored in exactly like it looks in the above video. It was not inverted on their necks and neither do I believe that Baby has it inverted on his head.
The fact is that it would be easier and would make more sense for him to bend his head forward in order to show the tattoo than for him to lean his head backward. Also depending on your point of reference (from Baby’s point of view) the star pointing the way it is on his head seems to me that it is actually right side up since the top of the star points toward his face and not the back of his head. It is possible that the star serves a dual purpose and is not just gang related but it’s a far stretch and if so then why aren’t the stars on their necks also inverted?
Furthermore, while I believe that the powers that put these videos together which you seem to like picking apart are indeed Masons and other such religions but I doubt every artist is involved or bluntly stated even gives a damn. I’m an artist as well that happens to be a Christian but if you wanna pay me to put goats and checkered floors and other random items in my video because you think it’s cute or it makes u happy with yourself about your pagan religion then have fun and put all the damn billy goats you can find in my video because it means nothing to me and I really couldn’t care less.

He was in a metal band called “Bathory” who were called the pioneers of black metal and viking metal (wikipedia.) Some of their album names: “The Return of Darkness and Evil”, “Blood Fire Death”, and not to mention “Under the Sign of the Black Mark”. I unfortunately can’t deny some of things in this video, as well Jay-Z’s recent videos as coincidences. However, being from the ‘hood”, I can say some of these symbols may be attributed to ignorance on the respective emcees part ( moreover Wayne then Jay, because I think Jay is a little more educated ). Being an O.G./ gang banger myself in my younger years, I know of Weezie’s blood gang affiliation. The 5-point star as well as the color red are two of the main symbols used by the gang. Thus the red star tattoo-ed on Wayne’s mentor, Birdman, who also aligns himself with the blood gang. Fire, being the color of red is also used a lot to symbolize the gang’s color affiliation.
I don’t deny ( or confirm ) the Masonic or Demonic overtones in the songs lyrics, but I do sometimes think we read too much in what these rappers are saying. As an emcee myself, a lot of times we say /write things that sound good or just use words and phrases for no other reason than they fit a rhyme scheme or appear as clever play on words. With that being said, I’m not a signed artist, so there is a lot of things I won’t say in a show or on a track, because I don’t want to align myself negatively. I’m pretty sure these signed dudes push the envelope on purpose just to stay relevant. As you said in one of the Jay-Z articles, controversy sells. I just don’t think I could ever sell myself out like that. That being said, maybe that’s why I’m not signed.
The one thing that confuses me with all the recent so-called symbolism in these Hip-Hop/ Pop/R&B videos, is the fact that the respective performers ( Jay, Wayne, Kanye, etc. ) are all still seen wearing their religious rosary/ cross pendants and Jesus head pendants. Lil Wayne sucks. I can say so because my teenage brother likes his music and I’ve heard some of it, and it sounded like a bunch of meaningless noise with no substance to me. I love older artists like Outkast , Tupac, and the Offspring who actually had something to say. This Lil Wayne person reminds me of a circus clown, and maybe he is satanic… I really don’t know or care. There is also a backwards message in the song 1999 during the FIRST chorus “party over ooops out of time”. Notice that’s the only place Prince sings the word “ooops” is in the first chorus.
